My Lord:-

SUPREME COURT,

SHANGHAI.

February 12th 1904.

With reference to the despatch from the Foreign Office No.14 of the 22nd of October last, on the subject of the deportation of Miss Florence Garrett from Amoy to Hong Kong, and the cost of her maintenance at the latter place, I have the honour to enclose copy of a despatch which I addressed to Mr. Hausser, His Majesty's Consul at Amoy, and of his reply.

It appears that Miss Garrett is a native of Hull in England, and she is believed to have a brother (a baker) and a step-sister living in Hull, but they are probably not in a position to bear any part of the expenses referred to. Mr. Hausser is unable to give their exact address.

It will be seen from Mr. Hausser's despatch that the deportation to Hong Kong was carried out so far as...

The Marquess of Lansdowne, K.C., &c. &c. &c.,
